"We shall individually be held responsible for doing one jot less than we have ability to do...But when we give ourselves wholly to God, and in our work follow His directions, He makes Himself responsible for its accomplishment. He would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest endeavors. Not once should we even think of failure. We are to cooperate with One who knows no failure." ~Messages to Young People, p. 309

The Israelites' Camps

Since I’m going to summer camp this summer, I thought it’d be neat if I did a Bible search on camps in the Bible. First I started with a list of the 41 camps the Israelites camped in their 40 years of desert camping, found in Numbers 33. Below is a list of the more notable Israelite camps.

After leaving Rameses in Egypt and camping at Succoth, the Israelites camped at:

Camp Etham: On the Edge of the Desert (Exodus 13:20)

Camp Pi Hahiroth by the Red Sea: Pharaoh thinks one thing, God thinks another (Exodus 14)

Camp Marah: The Camp of Bitter (Ooopps!) now Clean Water (Exodus 15:23-26)

Camp Elim: The oasis of 12 springs and 70 palm trees (Exodus 15:27)

The Desert of Sin: Where the Manna first fell (Exodus 16)

After camping at Dophkah and Alush…

Camp Rephidim: The Camp with No Drinkable Water (Exodus 17:1)

Camp Sinai: In front of the Mountain (Exodus 19:1, 2)

Camp Kibroth Hattaavah: the burial sites of people who had craved other food (Numbers 11)

Camp Hazeroth: Where Siblings Oppose Each Other (Numbers 12)

After camping at Rithmah, Rimmon Perez, Libnah, Rissah, Kehelathah, Mount Shepher, Haradah, Makheloth, Tahath, Terah, Mithcah, Hashmonah, Moseroth, Bene Jaakan, Hor Haggidgad, Jotbathah, Abronah, and Ezion Geber…..

Camp Kadesh: In the Desert of Zin (Numbers 33:36)

Camp Mount Hor: Where Aaron Died (Numbers 33:37-39)

After Oboth…

Camp Iye Abarim: On the border of Moab (Numbers 33:44)

And after Iyim, Dibon Gad, Almon Diblathaim, and the mountains of Abarim…

Camp Jordan: On the Plains of Moab, Just Across from Canaan, the Jordan River and Jericho (Numbers 33: 48-49)

And then…under their new leader Joshua, the Israelites with God’s help conquered Canaan!
