"We shall individually be held responsible for doing one jot less than we have ability to do...But when we give ourselves wholly to God, and in our work follow His directions, He makes Himself responsible for its accomplishment. He would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest endeavors. Not once should we even think of failure. We are to cooperate with One who knows no failure." ~Messages to Young People, p. 309

Blogging Through The Gospels: John 18

John 18 takes a turn--from Jesus' wonderful promises to what the evil world did when they finally got their bloodthirsty hands on the Prince of Peace.

Scripture:

"Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness the Jews did not enter the palace; they wanted to be able to eat the Passover." ~John 18:28

Observation:

The Jewish priests and leaders are committing hedious sins by crucifying the Son of God. And yet when they bring him to Roman Governor Pilate's palace, they are so "holy" that they don't defy their "cleanliness" by stepping foot onto Gentile ground. On the outside, they are "obeying" the laws, but on the inside they are sticky, moldy, mud-slime dirty!

Application:

Remember Matthew 23:25-26?

"Wow to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside will also be clean."

Jesus is saying that we need to clean up the inside of ourselves first, and then the outside will be clean. It won't work the other way around, and the Pharisees and Jewish leaders in this story certainly proved that.

Of course, we can't clean up the inside of ourselves by our self. We need God to do that for us. Sure, to our friends, co-workers, fellow believers, we may look good. But deep down inside, we know who we are. We know we need to let God in and clean us, inside out.

Will you let God clean you inside out??

Prayer:

Dear God, I know that I'm sinful inside. Please come into me, and cleanse me from all sin. From the inside out. In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen.
