"We shall individually be held responsible for doing one jot less than we have ability to do...But when we give ourselves wholly to God, and in our work follow His directions, He makes Himself responsible for its accomplishment. He would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest endeavors. Not once should we even think of failure. We are to cooperate with One who knows no failure." ~Messages to Young People, p. 309

Happy Birthday!

Did you know that Biblical characters celebrated their birthdays?? I didn't either, until I did a little research! Here's a few instances in the Bible of people having birthdays, and what they did to celebrate them.

  • Noah had his 601st birthday while he was on the Ark! To celebrate, he and his family helped topple the roof and take a peak outside, to see how the drying process was going. To get the full scoop, check out Genesis 8:13-14.
  • Pharaoh, king of Egypt, celebrated one of his birthdays by taking two of his servants out of prison. He restored one to their position, but hanged the other servant. To get the full scoop, check out Genesis 40, especially verses 20-22.
  • In Jesus' day, a ruler named Herod had his daughter dance for him for his birthday, in front of all his guests. She pleased him so much, he said that he'd give her anything she wanted. The request? The head of a prophet. To get the full scoop, check out Matthew 14:6-11.
  • Do you know of any other Biblical characters celebrating their birthdays? If so, leave me a comment here on my blog and tell me about it! :)
