Scripture:
"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." ~John 5:24
Observation:
Wow. Isn't that verse amazing? I just love that last part where Jesus says that those who hear and believe him have "crossed over from death to life"!! Let's unpack this verse a little bit.
"I tell you the truth"--"This is true stuff I'm gonna tell you now, everyone!"
"whoever hears my word and believe him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned"--
Sure, lots of people may hear God's word. They can sit through a sermon and not get anything out of it. It just goes in one ear and out the other! So lots of people hear God's word...but there's a smaller number that actually hear and believe--sure, these people hear God's word--but they do something about it, namely believe in God. These people--true Christians, doing everything they can to please God, and do what he says--will have eternal life. Wow. That's awesome!
Application:
Lots of people hear God's word. I'm sure you hear it, too. But do you believe it, and the God who sent it?
Prayer:
Dear God, help me not just to hear your Word, but to believe it and believe in You too. Amen.
