"We shall individually be held responsible for doing one jot less than we have ability to do...But when we give ourselves wholly to God, and in our work follow His directions, He makes Himself responsible for its accomplishment. He would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest endeavors. Not once should we even think of failure. We are to cooperate with One who knows no failure." ~Messages to Young People, p. 309

Blogging Through The Gospels: John 12

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to John 12. In this chapter, Mary anoints Jesus with some very expensive nard, the Triumphal Entry occurs, Jesus predicts his death, and the Jews continue in their unbelief (again!).

Scripture:

"Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved praise from men more than praise from God." ~John 12:42-43

Observation:

Well, if "I" was one of those leaders, "I" would have cared less if I was put out of the synagogue, right? "I" would do the right thing and publicly confess my belief in Jesus, right? Ahhhhh....RIGHT. Still--I feel sorry for these leaders. They wanted to believe, but didn't do the right thing because they were afraid of what man could do. In short, verse 43 sums it all up: "for they loved praise from men more than praise from God."

Application:

Do I love "praise from men more than praise from God"? We all know what we should say, but would that be the truth??

Prayer:

Dear God, help me to learn to love praise from You more than praise from man. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
