"We shall individually be held responsible for doing one jot less than we have ability to do...But when we give ourselves wholly to God, and in our work follow His directions, He makes Himself responsible for its accomplishment. He would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest endeavors. Not once should we even think of failure. We are to cooperate with One who knows no failure." ~Messages to Young People, p. 309

Blogging Through The Gospels: Luke 10

Happy Sabbath! :) Today's Scripture reading is Luke 10, which covers Jesus sending out the seventy-two, the parable of the Good Samaritan, and Jesus at the home of Martha and Mary. While there are many good stories and points here, I was really touched as I read the story of Martha and Mary.

Scripture:

""Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." ~Luke 10:41,42

Observation:

I think we all know this story. Jesus and his disciples have come to Martha and Mary's house, and Martha is busy in the kitchen making food for thirteen hungry men. Naturally, she feels like her sister should help her, but all Mary is doing is listening to Jesus!

Finally, Martha has had enough. She tells Jesus all about it, but then Jesus kindly reprimands her, reminding her that while he enjoyed the food, the most important thing was that they (Martha and Mary) listen to Jesus. Jesus commends Mary for her choice, and there the story stops. I kind of wonder what Martha's response was, don't you?

Application:

Sometimes, do we do "good things", but really should be doing something else that's better?

Prayer:

Dear God, please give me discernment to know what to do in my life. Help me to choose the right thing, even though both options may be good. Please help me and remind me to always listen to You, no matter what. Amen.
