"We shall individually be held responsible for doing one jot less than we have ability to do...But when we give ourselves wholly to God, and in our work follow His directions, He makes Himself responsible for its accomplishment. He would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest endeavors. Not once should we even think of failure. We are to cooperate with One who knows no failure." ~Messages to Young People, p. 309

Blogging Through The Gospels: Luke 13

Wow--we're in Luke 13!--that means we're over half way done with the Gospel of Luke! Wow! Luke 13 covers a mixture of Jesus' teachings, parables, and miracles, though I want to focus on one particular miracle today!

Scripture:

"When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, "Woman, you are set free from your infirmity." Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God." ~Luke 13:12-13

Observation:

Jesus was teaching in a synagogue--church--on a Sabbath and he saw this crippled, bent-over woman. His heart went out to her--she had not been able to stand up straight for eighteen years. Even though the Pharisees were indignant at his healing on the Sabbath, Jesus still called this woman up to the front and healed her.

Application:

I may sound a bit too much like the little kid song "Jesus Loves Me", but there is a fundamental truth in the song: Jesus does love you. He cares for you, and only wants the best for you. Jesus isn't on this earth anymore, but that doesn't mean he doesn't still perform miracles. If a person is totally surrendered to him, God can change that person for the better in ways that are just too amazing to say. God can perform a miracle in someone's life, and change them from wanting and doing worldly and selfish things to wanting and doing heavenly and unselfish things.

Do you have defects, character traits that you wish weren't in you? Come to God, and surrender every part of you, and he will make a wonderful, amazing change in you. It may take a long time, it is an on-going process, but by beholding God and his Word, you will become changed, and become more like Them!

Prayer:

Dear God, I know I'm not perfect. I want to be more like you. I surrender all of me to you--please, work a miracle and change me from a selfish person to an unselfish person that is more like You. Thank you for being the awesome God you are! In Jesus' name, Amen.
