"We shall individually be held responsible for doing one jot less than we have ability to do...But when we give ourselves wholly to God, and in our work follow His directions, He makes Himself responsible for its accomplishment. He would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest endeavors. Not once should we even think of failure. We are to cooperate with One who knows no failure." ~Messages to Young People, p. 309

Blogging Through The Gospels: Mark 12

As the Gospel of Mark starts drawing to a close, the Pharisees are (once again!) testing Jesus with their "hard" and "tricky" questions.

These questions include:

  • Should we pay taxes to Caesar?
  • If in the course of time, seven men end up marrying one woman, at the resurrection who's wife is she? (Yes, I know that's a crazy question!)
  • Which is the greatest commandment?

Finally, Jesus shuts everyone up by asking his own question! See Mark 12:35-37.

OK! Onto our SOAP. While Jesus was explaining about marriage, death, and life at the resurrection, he said the below verse. I really liked it, so it's going to be the focus of the rest of this article!

Scripture:

"He is not the God of the dead, but of the living" ~Mark 12:27a

Observation:

Do you get what this verse is saying?? God is not a god of the dead, but of the living! He does not want us dead. He wants us to live, to truly and joyfully live with him and in him!

Application:

I guarantee you, if you are reading this post, you are NOT DEAD! ;) But I sincerely believe that there are more than one way of being dead. Of course there is physical death, which is what Jesus was talking about. But there are other ways of being dead too. Perhaps you are going through hard times emotionally, or in your relationships. Maybe you feel dead in those ways. Perhaps your spiritual life isn't where it should be, and you feel like that is dying down.

Wherever you may feel like you are "dying", I promise you one thing: God is only too eager to make you alive again! To make you new again, and truly, forever happy! Check out 2 Corinthians 5:17:

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"

All we have to do is to give God full control over our lives. That may sound scary, but I do promise you that you're putting your life in the best hands ever! Remember, God is not a God of the dead, but of the living! He wants to make a new creation out of us, so we can be truly happy.

Prayer:

Dear God, I'm dying in several areas of my life. Please, come, take full control of me and my life. Help make me alive and joyful again. Amen.
