"We shall individually be held responsible for doing one jot less than we have ability to do...But when we give ourselves wholly to God, and in our work follow His directions, He makes Himself responsible for its accomplishment. He would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest endeavors. Not once should we even think of failure. We are to cooperate with One who knows no failure." ~Messages to Young People, p. 309

The Soviets Don't Have A Space Monopoly

Fifty years ago today, Astronaut Alan B. Shepard flew into space. It may have just been a 15-minute sub-orbital hop, but nevertheless this flight showed the Russians that they weren't the only space faring nation. The Americans intended to catch up. Here's a wonderful 10-minute video on Shepard's flight. I may not agree with everything that people in the video say, but it is still a very nice production.

From Freedom Seven to STS-133. Today, fifty years of American manned space flight.
