"We shall individually be held responsible for doing one jot less than we have ability to do...But when we give ourselves wholly to God, and in our work follow His directions, He makes Himself responsible for its accomplishment. He would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest endeavors. Not once should we even think of failure. We are to cooperate with One who knows no failure." ~Messages to Young People, p. 309

Blogging Through The Gospels: Matthew 28

Good morning everyone! Today's chapter (Matthew 28) is the final chapter in Matthew...and perhaps my favorite! Why? Jesus is raised to life!!!!

Most of the chapter following the adventures of the two Marys on that Sunday morning. They come to the tomb, and see an angel dazzling like lightning and snow! The Roman guards are terrified and run away, but the angel tells the two Marys not to be afraid. The angel shows them the empty tomb, and tells them that Jesus has been raised to life. I thought it was interesting that the angel referred to what Jesus had already told the two Marys and his disciples. Case in point, verse 6:

"For He has been resurrected, just as He said."

The angel was trying to get the Marys thinking about what Jesus had already told them concerning his death and resurrection. I thought that was really cool!

After hearing this news, the two Marys race away from the tomb, hardly waiting to tell anyone about what they just saw and heard. As they were on their way to the disciples, who do they run into? Jesus himself! And what does Jesus say? I thought this was really cool. See verse 9:

"Good morning!"

Jesus goes on to repeat his promise that he will meet all his disciples in Galilee, and tells the two Marys to spread the word. I just thought that it was super awesome what Jesus said!

OK. You ready for a shower with SOAP??

Scripture:

"So, departing quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to tell His disciples the news." ~Matthew 28:8

Observation:

The two Marys knew something that they had to spread. They were so excited about Jesus being alive, they couldn't just keep the news hidden. (Unlike the Roman soldiers, see Matthew 28:11-15). They literally ran to tell people!! Now that's pretty exciting news if you're running to tell it!

Application:

How excited about God am I? Has knowing these stories since kindergarden dulled the excitement or wonder? When I get a new movie, or book, or idea, I'm all over telling everybody about it. Are we that kind of excited about God?

Prayer:

Dear God, help me to be more excited about You. Amen.
